
I have my breakfast right now, a cup of red tea, fruit, some bread and butter and corn flakes. I also take an Omega-3 pill. It is not very different from what I had 10 years ago except from the Omega-3 pill. 10 years ago I wouldn’t touch a pill if I was not ill. My view was that it is not “natural” and very risky. Now 10 years after, I say almost the same but now I can not see why pills are more risky than corn flakes. Both are products of an industrial process. The statistics is in favor for Omega-3, so why not?
Will the next 10 years change what is included in our meals. The knowledge of what we should put in our bodies is rapidly increasing. Soon we also know how the aging process is working and maybe within 10 years there will be pills for that to. Many scientist are claiming that aging is nothing that have to be. It is a biological process. Maybe to ensure that we get new generations with new abilities. With Darwin’s eyes, a way to make the evolution to continue. It is possible that there will be life extension drugs, let’s say it doubles your time on earth. In the future maybe even more. If so, will you eat these pills?
We are just humans! It must be convenient to change our behavior. Otherwise, it will not happen. Maybe you have heard that a low-calorie diet will make you live much longer but you need to walk around always hungry. Almost no one, including me, follow this diet even if we know that we probably will live longer and have a more healthy life. It is very hard to follow and also very inconvenient.
Even if we know what is best for us, we have a tendency to fall back to old patterns or prefer the most convenient way. Especially when it comes to food.
So, what will we eat 2020? I think that we will eat almost the same as today plus maybe one or more extra pills. I also think that the knowledge about what we should eat has increased significantly. At 2020 we have even more pills or other types of treatments that make us more healthy and that will extend our life but I think that we need to wait another 10 years before we will see a real difference in behavior.
At the year 2030 our breakfast will be very different compared with today’s breakfast!
